Captain America: Civil War footage shown at Disney’s D23 Expo

Marvel Studios presented fans at Saturday’s D23 Expo with an exclusive preview of their first Phase Three movie, Captain America: Civil War. Marvel Studios boss kevin Feige was joined onstage by cast members Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie to promote the superhero epic.

The footage opens with Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon dealing with Crossbones as the villain attempts to blow up a truck. During the fight, Crossbones tosses a magnetic explosive at Cap’s shield, and the hero throws it into the air so that the explosion avoids the crowd.

It’s Official, Benedict Cumberbatch lands the ‘Doctor Strange’ role with Marvel

The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

With “Doctor Strange,” Cumberbatch is just the latest actor to join the bold Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing new heroes and continuing the adventures of fan favorites across multiple films.

Marvel announce ‘Black Panther’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, Two Part Avengers and Much More! #MarvelEvent

Marvel President Kevin Feige hosted a special event to discuss the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He not only cleared up some mysteries surrounding the titles and release dates of films we have been expecting, such as a third Captain America, a third Thor (featuring Loki), and a third Avengers, but he announced several new films that were a complete surprise, including Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Inhumans.

Among the biggest announcements was that the third Avengers film is actually two films, titled Avengers Infinity War Parts I & II, to be released in May of 2018 and May 0f 2019, respectively. Also, we got to meet the actor who will be portraying Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman!

What is most significant is Captain America: Civil War which will kick off phase three. Robert Downey Jr. & Chris Evans were introduced to the stage to face off in front of the logo (they will undoubtedly fight one another in the movie), shortly after joined by Chadwick Boseman who will make his Marvel debut as Black Panther in the film.

May 6, 2016: Captain America: Civil War

November 4, 2016: Doctor Strange

May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

July 28, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok

November 3, 2017: Black Panther

May 4, 2018: Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1

July 6, 2018: Captain Marvel

November 2, 2018: The Inhumans

May 3, 2019: Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2

We were then teased with an image of the overlord Thanos voiced by Josh Brolin wielding the Infinity Gauntlet… This will be epic!

So the order in which Marvel will dominate cinema’s worldwide is:

Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’

Marvel Studios may have found its Doctor Strange finally. Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to play the doctor-turned-sorcerer in the newest superhero film from Marvel directed by Scott Derrickson. The film has yet to be given an official date, but marvel is said to be eyeing a 2016 release, Cumberbatch’s role is expected to be made official at a Marvel Studios presentation to media and fans at Disney’s El Capitan Theatre soon.

Cumberbatch would play Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Marvel Comics veterans Stan Lee and Steve Ditko co-created the character in 1963. Marvel has long wanted to launch a film franchise around the character and eventually integrate him in one of its “Avengers” sequels.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has spoken many times about the Doctor Strange character and the need for him to star in his own solo film as a way to make a movie about magic the way “Guardians of the Galaxy” pushes it into the sci-fi and space genre and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” into political thrillers.Marvel had originally been in negotiations with Joaquin Phoenix to take the role, but couldn’t reach a deal because of the number of films the thesp would have to agree to make.

Cumberbatch’s deal is contingent upon his schedule, which includes the “Sherlock Holmes” series for BBC and commitments to star in theater productions.

Robert Downey Jr to play Iron Man in Civil War plot Crossover Captain America 3

Exciting news from the Marvel front (as always). Robert Downey Jr is currently in talks to reprise his role as Iron Man in the upcoming yet untitled ‘Captain America 3’ movie. Whats even more exciting is the plotline is supposedly based on the Marvel Comics Civil War storyline (queue nerdgasms).

This news is rather surprising as Marvel supposedly had no plans to make a fourth Iron Man film, with many speculating as to whether Robert Downey Jr would be included in future films in the franchise other than the Avengers. But according to Hollywood industry title Variety the actor is reported to sign on to the upcoming Capt America movie with a reported pay of $40 million.

Marvel announced plans earlier this week to reboot the Civil War comic book series in 2015, which will presumably introduce viewers to the story leading up to Captain America 3. In the comic book series, Capt America is pitted against Iron Man after the US Government passes a superhero registration act that sees the two heroes fall on opposite sides. This leads to the Avengers splitting into two groups and battling it out.

The film is due in May 2016 and will be directed by Joe & Anthony Russo who helmed Captain America: The WInter Soldier.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ is Marvel’s best Movie yet… No exaggeration!

On Wednesday 30th July Skype invited me and one friend to an early showing of Guardians Of The Galaxy. All I can say is GO SEE IT NOW! It is without a doubt the best Marvel movie and potentially best superhero film of all time. It was a movie that only really had to be decent, with the single aim of pushing Marvel into the next phase, instead James Gunn the director took it to a whole new level.

This was considered somewhat of a Marvel wildcard, taking 5 of the universe’s least know heroes and giving them their own movie following the better known likes of Thor, Captain America and of course Iron Man. Gunn the Director made this film one hell of a wacky , comedic, action thriller – it didn’t take itself too seriously and is definitely one of the funniest films I have seen this year. Marvel certainly have made sure the Guardians have plenty of publicity, making it a must see event and even having the confidence to proclaim “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Will Return” at the end of the movie. This is a company with the utmost confidence in their product, and after seeing it it’s very easy to understand why.

First and foremost, Guardians… is fun. After a truly heart-breaking beginning everything goes a bit daft, mixing swashbuckling sci fi action with larger than life characters, and whilst at first you may be a little puzzled, it all streamlines into a simple plot soon enough. Basically, Guardians leader Peter Quill (known mainly to only himself as Star Lord) has a plot device, and other people also want the plot device. He forms an alliance with a very disparate bunch of people who each have their own reason for helping him. To go into more detail really isn’t that necessary, as all it will involve is laying out a roster of names and personal grievances, and you’ll get all that when you watch the film, because if you’re reading this review I will lay odds you’re going to see it.

The movie looks beautiful throughout, probably thanks to the thousand or so “Digital Artists” who take up a large part of the end credits. Yeah, the bad guys have dull, dark vessels with inadequate lighting (surely evil needs to see as well?) but the good guys have some sexy vessels indeed. Sound wise, it may seem odd that a 2014 state of the art sci fi movie will have a 1970’s/80’s chart soundtrack, but the inclusion of The Runaways, Rupert Holmes and, of course, Blue Swede’s “Hooked On A Feeling” is completely explained and rather poignant. I mean the music is quite literally written into the story of the main character, its amazingly done – after seeing the film I even went and downloaded all the songs from the movie, see here on iTunes.

Top honours are fought out between Chris Pratt, excellent and ridiculously likable as Peter Quill, and the brilliant Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), a purely CGI character stuffed with attitude and some great one liners. In fact I’d have to say even Vin Diesel’s Groot who only has three lines (“I am Groot”) is fantastic in this movie, they have personalities that just make us forget entirely that they are in fact CGI. In closing, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” is right up there with the rest of Marvel’s cinematic output, making a clear mark by being totally different to anything else we’ve so far seen. I’m excited to see what is next for the 5 heroes in Guardians 2 and even more excited to see them meet up with Avengers – hopefully in the third movie.

#ComicCon News Summary – Avengers: Age of Ultron & Batman vs Superman at #SDCC

Comic Con is famous for being the worlds greatest geek fest, and this year did not disappoint! The two most highly anticipated movies were of course, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Avengers: Age of Ultron. So lets see what both had to offer this year.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Avengers themselves took to the stage to the tune of Michael Jackson’s ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’ with Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Cobie Smoulders (Maria Hill), Paul Bettany (The Vision/JARVIS) and James Spader (Ultron) – and breath!

The footage that screened sounds amazing, the tone it took was to start out light and fun and then get darker as the reel went on – much the direction the second film will take in comparison to the first. It opened with the Avengers (and War Machine himself, Rhodey) all hanging out in Stark Tower (now Avengers Tower) enjoying a few drinks. As they are all having a laugh together they each take turns at trying to pick up Thor’s hammer. Tony Stark and Rhodey use their gauntlets to no avail, Bruce Banner practically hulks out but has no luck, Cap however did make the hammer move, just a little!

The fun is suddenly disrupted by a very creepy moment as a broken-up robot suddenly enters the scene. It’s barely able to stand, hanging in mid-air it tells the team that they are all killers. Its one of Stark’s Iron Legion, but one that has clearly gone wrong, all of a sudden a mass of bots crash into the tower and attack.

speed leaving a trail in his wake whilst Scarlet Witch controls stuff with her mind. Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor makes an appearance facing off against the Hulk, as seen in concept art already, but why are the two fighting? However we do see Banner curled in a blanket at one point having some kind of inner turmoil with himself with a shot of Black Widow then lifting her hand up to the Hulk’s. Ultron’s voiceover references The Vision but we don’t actually see him in action (although he is in the concept art below) and finally we see Andy Serkis himself, not in a motion capture role. s, the Avengers’? Is it a dream or something more? All of this shows the movie will be going down a far darker road… The last thing we see is Ultron in a new, shinier body armor. But one last bit happened at the Avengers portion of the panel as Josh Brolin took the stage with an Infinity Gauntlet toy glove.

batfleck-reg-6a419Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice

Warner Bros. have released the first footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at Comic-Con 2014. re angry. s eyes are glowing during this part of the clip and when Superman sees that, he makes his eyes glow red.

They’re clearly angry with each other and this is the beginning of what Batman v Superman is all about.  The teaser’s setting takes place during the night where it’s pouring rain. They’re on a rooftop with Ben Affleck as Batman in a bulky armor almost, military grade, and his eyes are glowing as he pulls a tarp off the Bat signal.

It shines far into the sky where it’s lightning and standing inside Batman’s symbol is Henry Cavill’s Superman. He looks angry, his eyes are glowing red similar to what we’ve seen with his heat vision ray in Man of Steel. The camera pans in on Batman’s face as he looks angered and ready to fight when the film cuts to black. For this the audience went crazy. This is something I was initially sceptical about with the choice of Ben Affleck as Batman and all, but its grown on me significantly!

Marvel cast Michael Douglas in ‘Ant-Man’ alongside Paul Rudd

Michael Douglas has confirmed he will play a prominent role in the upcoming Marvel superhero film, Ant-Man. Douglas will be playing Henry “Hank” Pym, the creator of the technology used to shrink a human to the size of an insect.

He will be starring alongside Paul Rudd who has already been announced as playing the part of Scott Lang, Ant-Man’s alter-ego. Douglas said:

“I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long, the script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan [the actor’s 13-year-old son] will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see.”

Hank Pym first appeared in the 27th issue of Marvel Comics series Tales to Astonish in January 1962. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, said in a statement posted on that Douglas will play Pym with “charm and fortitude”.

Ant-Man is due to be released in cinemas in July next year and will be directed by Edgar Wright. He is best known for directing the trilogy Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
